ROUND 9 MATCH REPORT PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 11 April 2006
Sunshine George Cross dominated from the first whistle but only got a share of the points in one of the most one sided 0-0 drawn matches for a long time.

 SUNSHINE GEORGE CROSS 0

BULLEEN ZEBRAS 0

LINE UP: John(GK), Muscat (c), Tsirstsakis, Azzopardi, Kovacevic, Waterson (Richards 58'), Delic, Filipovic, Trpcevski (Soares 75'), Draycott, Neceski

The Georgies were on the attack form the outset and never allowed the visitors a look in attack. Georgies keeper Martin John had the easiest 90 minutes he could ever wish for not having to make a solitary save throughout this contest.
The Georgies defence led by the dominating central defensive partnership of Colin Azzopardi and Sime Kovacevic completely shut out an out of sorts Bulleen attack. Manny Muscat came out trumps in his battle with former Melbourne Victory player Ricky Diaco, so much so that Diaco was replaced after only 56 minutes.
The Georgies first attack came via a cross from the left by Mark Draycott, making his first start for the club after substitute appearances in the previous weeks, who found the on rushing Dusko Delic. Delic's was partially blocked by Bulleen's keeper Tomas Kovar and the rebound just evaded the sliding Tony Neceski.
Moments later the big Georgie striker intercepted a back pass and from 18 yards saw his chip shot just go literally inches wide of the upright. Vasko Trpcevski went even closer to opening the scoring, when he got on the end of a Trent Waterson cross, but he saw his header hit the upright and the ball roll along the goal line and into the arms of the relieved Kovar.
Trpcevski once again forced Kovar to making a diving save as the Georgies took complete control. Tony Neceski was playing as a perfect target man up front linking up well with Draycott and Muscat on the left and Waterson and Arthur Tsirtsakis on the right. Bulleen's only half chance came after 28 minutes when a sloppy pass by Ivan Filipovic was intercepted by Steve Martin, but his effort went well over the bar, much to the relief of Filipovic. Manny Muscat provided the last opportunity of the first half when his well timed centre saw Draycott loop a header over the bar when he should have at least hit the target.

The second half was just as one sided, but Bulleen restriced the Georgie's chances by pulling every player back to defend. The Zebras seemed happy with the draw, with the Georgies pushing Muscat and Tsirtsakis into attack from both flanks. In fact it was Tsirtsakis who provided an inviting cross for Mark Draycott to head home only for Bulleen captain Stelios Drakos to skim the ball away from Draycott with a last ditch header. Very few goal scoring chances were created with the best chances falling to Dusko Delic whose effort just evaded the upright and further shots by Delic and Eduardo Soares blocked by the en mass Bulleen defence.
Unfortunately the goal so richly deserved did not come, but the method and style displayed by the Georgies in this match augurs well for the future in the fight to get away from the danger zone.
