ROUND 9 PREVIEW PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 06 April 2006
Round 9 of the Vodafone Cup sees Sunshine George Cross take on Bulleen on Sunday afternoon at Chaplin Reserve.
The Georgies have a slight advantage by having more recovery time after the Round 8 games. Georgie played on Friday whilst Bulleen played on Monday.
Last Friday against Oakleigh the gallant Georgies went down 1-2. The Georgies led briefly after new recruit Vasco Trpcevski found the back of the net. Oakleigh did take all three points but the Georgies played well and with the prospect of soon having a full squad to choose from Sunshine can only improve.
Bulleen have also added to their squad recently by acquiring the services of A-League players Ricky Diaco and Billy Celeski. After obtaining a win and a draw in their opening games of the season, the Zebras went on a three game losing streak before getting their season back on track with three wins on the trot. The Bulleen defence has also surprisingly been leaky with two of their three losses to date being 4-1 thrashings. On Monday night though Diaco scored twice to give the Zebras a 2-1 win over the in form Melbourne Knights. This win has seen Bulleen climb up to fourth position on the League table.
Honours are close to even over the years with Georgie winning six and drawing six of the nineteen games played between the two clubs. Last season Bulleen were victorious in a night game at the Veneto 2-0 and the game at Chaplin ended in a 1-1 draw.

In other games: Kingston are at home to Fawkner-Whittlesea and Green Gully are away to Essendon on Friday night. The only Saturday game has Altona Magic taking on Oakleigh in the match of the round. The Sunday fixtures are Preston vs the improving Heidelberg, Melbourne Knights vs Frankston Pines and South Melbourne vs Richmond.
