ROUND 20 PREVIEW PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 12 July 2006
Round 20 of the Vodafone Cup will see Sunshine George Cross travel to Bob Jane Stadium for their clash with South Melbourne.

Last week a Trent Waterson goal wasn't enough as the Georgies went down 1-2 after taking the lead against Altona Magic whilst South Melbourne triumphed 2-0 against the Melbourne Knights.

The Round 7 fixture against South Melbourne was Joe Montemurro's first game in charge of Sunshine George Cross. Trent Waterson was the hero that day, scoring the goal that gave Georgie a 1-0 win over league heavyweight South.

South have a fantastic home record and are undefeated at Bob Jane. In fact, South had won every home game this season until the visit of the Essendon Royals in Round 18; that game ended one all.

Since demolishing the Melbourne Knights 7-0 in the catch up game a few weeks ago, South have picked up five points out of a possible nine in the past three games and they have only lost one game since Round 10. This purple patch of form sees them sitting in second position on the League table with 34 points.

The South game presents the Georgies with an opportunity to do the 'double' over their opponents. A feat that was only achieved once last season (against the Bentleigh Greens; both 3-1 victories).

With other clubs hovering around the relegation zone picking up points last weekend, it's imperative the Georgies find a way out of the current situation they find themselves in, especially with more tough games ahead and season's end quickly approaching.

In other games: Saturday: Frankston Pines v Preston and Altona Magic v Richmond. Sunday: Oakleigh v Melbourne Knights, Green Gully v Kingston and Heidelberg v Fawkner-Whittlesea. Monday night: Bulleen v Essendon.
