ROUND 15 PREVIEW PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 25 May 2006
In Round 15 of the Vodafone Cup Sunshine George Cross face the Preston Lions at B.T Connor Reserve.

In Round 14, Georgie drew 0-0 against Kingston City at Chaplin Reserve. Even without the suspended Manny Muscat, the Cross looked solid at the back and also looked dangerous in attack. The draw extends the Georgies unbeaten run to four games. Preston also drew against the Melbourne Knights with their game finishing at 2-2.

The game at Chaplin Reserve earlier in the season was a resounding 4-1 victory to Georgie with Tony Neceski scoring a brace of goals. Dusko Delic and Marinos Gasparis (who has since transferred to Preston) scored the others.
The recent trend with Georgie v Preston fixtures is high scores. The last three results between the two clubs have been: 2-2, 1-3 and 4-1.

For the Preston Lions, Epping Stadium became a home away from home when Connor Reserve was deemed unsafe after the pitch was damaged by invading birds, however, Connor Reserve has now been given the all clear and will host the Round 15 clash.

After only picking up one point from their first five games, new coach Goran Lozanovski has guided the Lions out of the relegation zone. Preston are currently 11th on the League table with 14 points. Georgie are 9th with 16 points.

Prior to Round 14, Georgie went on a goal scoring spree scoring nine goals in three games. The Cross found championship challengers Kingston a hard nut to crack and had to settle on a nil all draw. Preston have also been banging in the goals with twelve in their past five outings. Former Georgie, Anthony Magnacca is Preston's top scorer with a tally of eight.

Georgie should be back to full strength this week, with captain Manny Muscat available after serving one week's suspension.

In other games: Friday night: Essendon v Melbourne Knights and Kingston v Altona Magic. Saturday: Frankston Pines v Richmond. Sunday: Green Gully v Bulleen and Heidelberg v Oakleigh. Monday night: Fawkner-Whittlesea v South Melbourne.
