ROUND 13 PREVIEW PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 11 May 2006
Sunshine George Cross take on Fawkner-Whittlesea at Chaplin Reserve on Sunday at 3.00PM in Round 13 of the Vodafone Cup.

In Round 12, Sunshine George Cross had a morale boosting 4-1 victory against Heidelberg at the Olympic Village. It was a match full of incidents with red cards, missed penalties and disallowed goals. Fidel Richards instantly gained cult hero status amongst the Georgie faithful who braved the cold with a brilliant hat-trick. Brett Gilmour was also on the score-sheet.
Fawkner-Whittlesea also had a big win against the Melbourne Knights on Monday night running out 4-3 winners.

Fawkner surprisingly lost the first three games of the season and got their first win against Bulleen in a 4-1 romp. The Epping Stadium based team have been inconsistent since and have only drawn 1 game this season (Round 11). Fawkner have 13 points and are placed 10th on the Vodafone Cup table. The Georgies have 12 points and sit 11th on the table.

Fawkner have been involved in some high scoring games this season. They are the League's highest scorers with a tally of 24 from 12 games, however, they have also conceded the most goals with 26 going past the keeper.
A win for either side could put them back in to finals contention. A loss on the other hand could plummet either side back in to the relegation mire.

Last season the Georgies won 2-1 at Chaplin, whilst Fawkner gained revenge at Epping with a 3-1 win with player/coach and former Georgie favourite John Markovski amongst the goals after bringing himself on as a substitute.

In other games: Friday night: Essendon v Preston and Oakleigh v Frankston Pines. Saturday night: Altona Magic v Heidelberg. Sunday: Melbourne Knights v Kingston and South Melbourne v Green Gully. Monday night: Bulleen v Richmond.
