ROUND 12 PREVIEW PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 04 May 2006
Sunshine George Cross take on Heidelberg United at the Olympic Village at 6.00PM in Round 12 of the Vodafone Cup.

Last week the Georgies relinquished a two goal lead against traditional rivals Green Gully and had to settle for a share of the spoils in a 2-2 draw. Heidelberg also were up 2-0 away to the Melbourne Knights but only took a point back to the Village after their game also ended at 2-2.

Last season's runner up lost three of it's first five games (two at home) but have been undefeated since Round 5 and currently occupy fifth position on the league table. Although undefeated in the past six rounds, the Bergers have only managed three draws out of their last three games.

The Georgies regained their goal scoring touch in Round 11 scoring two within four minutes in the first half against Green Gully. Striker Mark Draycott found the back of the net with a header for his first goal in a Georgie shirt. Defender Sime Kovacevic also scored via a header to also register his first goal for the Cross. These goals weren't enough though as Gully clawed their way back in to the game with two goals before the break.

With the exciting Fidel Richards back at Chaplin and Draycott breaking the drought and with Heidelberg strengthening their squad with former Melbourne Victory player Andy Vlahos, the Village could see some goals on Sunday.

Honours were even last season with Georgie winning the game at Chaplin and Heidelberg the victors at the Village.

In other games: Friday night: Kingston v Essendon and Richmond v Preston. Saturday: Frankston Pines v South Melbourne. Sunday: Green Gully v Altona Magic. Monday night: Bulleen v Oakleigh and Fawkner-Whittlesea v Melbourne Knights.
