ROUND 11 PREVIEW PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 26 April 2006
Round 11 of the Vodafone Cup brings the big derby game of Sunshine George Cross versus Green Gully at Chaplin Reserve on Sunday.

Both clubs are out of form and find themselves at the wrong end of the league table. In Round 10 Sunshine were very disappointing suffering a three nil loss away to the resurgent Frankston Pines whilst Green Gully again lost at home this time against the Melbourne Knights. Gully conceded a very late goal to go down one nil and have now only managed to pick up one point from their last four games.

Last seasons Premier League Champions have surprisingly struggled and will need a vast reversal of form if they are to defend their title. One of the most consistent teams in recent history, Gully find themselves in unfamiliar territory. With the unexpected departure of the experienced Ian Dobson as coach and with injuries and suspensions, the club, now led by former Georgie Andrew Marth had to wait till Round 5 to register it's first win.

Regardless of form and ladder positions, the Georgie v Gully derby always produces a contest that both sets of supporters relish.
The Georgies will be looking to continue their good home form. With only one loss to date at home this season and with Joe Montemurro settling his squad, Georgie supporters are looking forward to this match with much anticipation.

The day should be a good promotion for Victorian football. The senior match sees a derby game where two sides are desperate to pick up points to climb away from the relegation zone. The Under 21's match will produce an outright leader of the competition with a top of the table clash. Gully currently head the table with Georgie hot on their heels in second place.

In other games: Friday night: Essendon Royals vs Fawkner-Whittlesea and Oakleigh vs Richmond. Saturday night: Altona Magic vs Frankston Pines. Sunday: Preston vs Kingston, Melbourne Knights vs Heidelberg and South Melbourne vs Bulleen.
