ROUND 2 PREVIEW PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 07 February 2006

With lady luck deserting Sunshine George Cross in the Round 1 clash against big spending newcomers Kingston City, the Georgies will be hoping for better fortunes this weekend against the Preston Lions at Chaplin Reserve in Round 2 of the Vodafone Cup.

Both teams will be desperate to open their 2006 accounts after losing their opening games. Kingston had to rely on a first half penalty to defeat a valiant George Cross outfit who played the last 60 minutes of the game with ten men after first gamer Ivan Filipovic was shown the red card, whilst Preston went down 1-3 to the Melbourne Knights at Connor Reserve.

A good sized crowd is expected as Preston always bring with them a large, vocal and colourful group of supporters, and if this clash contains as much action as last season's encounter at Chaplin Reserve which finished in a 2-2 draw, then the crowd will be in for an entertaining evening's play.

Many of the Georgie fans who trekked out to the Grange Reserve to witness the Kingston City game were impressed with the new members of the squad who battled all night in search of a result. This week Englishman Craig Platt will be able to make his debut for the club after finally being cleared to play by the Federation.
