ROUND 17 PREVIEW PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 21 June 2006

Round 17 of the Vodafone Cup brings us the Sunshine George Cross v Melbourne Knights clash at Knights Stadium, Somers Street, Sunshine.

The Georgies defeated the Essendon Royals 2-1 in Round 16 with goals by Mark Draycott and Manny Muscat. The Knights drew one all against bottom placed Richmond and then lost 0-7 to South Melbourne in the rescheduled Round 6 game.

The first game at Chaplin Reserve between the two sides was a comfortable 2-0 win for the Knights. The Georgies were never in this game and the Knights deservedly took all three points back to Somers Street.
The corresponding game last season produced scenes of jubilation for Georgie fans as the point gained ensured survival in the Premier League in the scoreless draw in Round 26.

The Knights began the season strongly and were undefeated after six rounds, however, they have only managed to pick up nine points from their last ten games. A Georgie victory will see them jump ahead of the Knights on the Vodafone Cup table.

In other games: Friday night: Kingston v Oakleigh and Richmond v Green Gully. Sunday: Preston v South Melbourne, Fawkner-Whittlesea v Bulleen and Heidelberg v Frankston Pines. Monday night: Essendon v Altona Magic.
