The Georgies hosted neighbours Western Suburbs at Chaplin Reserve in it's round
three fixture on Sunday.
After last weeks performance at St Albans the Georgies were looking forward to
continuing the good form at home. The game started off as most with both sides
not giving much away early on although it was Suburbs who looked most likely
with a shot going accross the face of goals uncontested and luckily for the home
side no one was there to finish for Suburbs.
The Georgie's started to pick up the pace a little mid way through the first half and started to look a little more dangerous going forward hoever the only real highlight was a through ball from Martin which foundLojanica at the edge of the box who did well to get past the Suburbs Defence and Keeper only to see his shot go just past the upright. Haltime score 0 - 0.
The second half started a little more lively with both sides showing more enthusiasm then they did in the first half. Both sides showed a willingness to attack however there was no real penetration from either side in the final third. A clumsy free kick just outisde the box proved costly for the home side as Western Suburbs capitalised on the set piece with an unmarked player placing the ball in the goal with a precision header to put the visitors 1 - 0 up.
Tony Ciantar looked at the bench for inspiration and brought on Thomson who had an immediate impact on the game. Soon after followed the introduction of Franjic and Paterson who both added the little extra bite to the Georgies and suddenly there was a spring in the home side step. The Georgies threw everything at Western Suburbs in the last 15 mintues however the visitors remained resilient and kept the Georgies scoreless.
Another disappointing result at home for the Cross and they will be looking at trying to get some consistency in their game next week in round four where the Georgies will make the journey to Lara on Saturday to face North Geelong at Elcho Park 3pm Kick Off.
Final Score:
Sunshine George Cross 0
Western Suburbs 1
