Box Hill United began the game scoring within the first minute of kick off. From the outset it was quite clear that the experienced Box Hill team would be pressing to make it extremely difficult for their younger opponents.
To their credit the boys persisted and created a number of goal scoring opportunites. Unfortunately, a clumsy defensive error resulted in a penaly with Box Hill converting to make the score 2-0. Despite the score line, the team found their rhythm and their positive efforts and attacking midedness paid off with a clinical finish by Chris Galea for the Georgies to go into the half time break down 2-1.
Resuming from where they left off in the first half, it was evident that the momentum was clearly with the Georgies. A quick and precise exchange of passes paid off with Martin Mintoff slotting the ball past the Box Hill United Keeper to tie the game at 2-2. The frequency of attacking moves continued, with Mintoff again fiding space in the box but was unable to enough power on his placement to find the back of the net.
The remainder of the second half saw both teams attack to find the winner. Unfortunately in the dying minutes of the game Box Hill were able to take their one on one opportunity to take the result from their younger opponents. The final score Sunshine George Cross 2 Box Hill 3
