Sunshine George Cross

The 21's bounced back from last week's loss to Box Hill United to defeat St Albans Saints 6-3.  From the kick off it was quite clear that both teams ewre intent on playing attacking football.  The Georgies too the lead by a clinical finish from Martin Mintoff.  Mintues later Mintoff ran onto a precision pass from Chris Sutera to slot the ball for a 2-0 lead.  While pressured by St Albans, the team stood firm and counter attacked to creat more goal scoring opportunities.

With the half time break in sight, the 21's continued to attack with purpose and speed.  A foul by the St Albans defender outside the penalty area, saw the resulting free kick deflecting onton Mintoff to wrong foor the St Albans Keeper for a well deserved 3-0 score.  In the dying minutes of the first half, St Albans scored to see Sunshine George Cross going into the half time break with a 3-1 lead.

The second half began with a high degree of intensity.  A 30m diagonal ball from James Galea found Chris Sutera who volleyed sweetly to give the team a 4-1 lead.  St Albans continued to attack.  Indecvisive defensive play resulted in a George Cross own goal, for a 4-3 score.  Showing a great deal of resilience, the team responded through the efforts of Anton Nardella, who cleverly beat tow opponents and crossed to find Adrian Logozzo, who drove the ball past the outstretched Keeper for a 5-2 lead.

St Albans kept coming.  A penalty from an overzealous tackle by a Georgies Defender saw Dean Hilli at his brilliant best saving the well struck penalty.  Within minutes, undisciplined defensive play resulted in a second penalty.  Unfortunately this time, Hili was unable to repeat his earlier effort to see the St Albans convert and score their third for the game.  With ten minutes remaining and a 5-3 lead, the result was finally put to rest through an acrobatic effort Manuel Sadik.  With his back to goal, he cleverly lobbed the ball over the stranded St Albans Keeper.
