After three weeks of encouraging and positive football under new coach Joe Montemurro the Cross put in their worst performance of the season against Frankston Pines on Saturday afternoon.

FRANKSTON PINES 3 ( STEWART 19', 61' LINDRUM 86')

SUNSHINE GEORGE CROSS 0

LINE UP: John(GK), Muscat (c), Azzopardi, Kovacevic, Tsirtsakis (Erdogan 46'), Waterson, Filipovic (Gilmour 70'), Trpcevski, Delic, Neceski, Draycott (Soares 70')

Frankston Pines' dominance over Sunshine George Cross continued in this round 10 fixture at Monterey Reserve Frankston, with this easy 3-0 win over an unimaginative Sunshine George Cross side. This was the seventh meeting between the two sides since 2000, and the seventh successive win in as many matches for Frankston.
After a very even opening 19 minutes, it was the home team that struck first when a hopeful long ball played out of the Frankston backline caused the Georgie defence all sort of problems. Tsirtsakis and Azzopardi were in a seemingly comfortable situation with only Colin Stewart from the Pines in their attacking half. The ball sat up high between the two defenders forcing goalkeeper Martin John to come out and try to gather the ball on the edge of his penalty area. John was late coming out and got caught out by the promtness of Colin Stewart, who smartly lobbed the advancing keeper to open the scoring.
Within the first five minutes of the second period the Georgies should have been at least level when both Neceski and Draycott were presented with chances leaving them with only the keeper to beat put tame finishes allowed the Pines keeper to scramble both efforts away for corners. The Georgies had their fair share of the ball but lacked speed and imagination in midfield and in attack to worry the steady Pines backline. Frankston's keeper had a very easy afternoon considering the number of times Sunshine went forward.
The game was all over after 61 minutes when Sunshine's central defender Sime Kovacevic tripped on the ball allowing Craig Platt a run in on goals. The tall striker unselfishly squared the ball to Colin Stewart who hammered home goal number two. The Georgies kept on going forward but failed dismally against the Pines well drilled and determined defenders. Frankston put the icing on the cake with only four minutes left, when they added a third goal by Tairi Lindrum after a goal mouth scramble. The contingent of Georgie followers who made the long journey to Frankston left the ground in total bewilderment after seeing their team put up the worst performance of the season.
