ROUND 10 PREVIEW PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 18 April 2006

Monterey Reserve is the destination for Sunshine George Cross this week with the Round 10 Vodafone Cup fixture against Frankston Pines on Saturday afternoon.

Sunshine dominated play against Bulleen in Round 9 but only managed to take one point from the game with the end result being a scoreless draw. Georgie fans left Chaplin Reserve pleased with the style of play but frustrated with the amount of goal scoring opportunities created that weren't taken. Martin John had a very quiet afternoon in goal and Bulleen rode their luck and seemed to be happy to take a point from the game.
Frankston Pines ended a four game losing streak with a 1-0 away win against the Melbourne Knights in the upset of Round 9.
Frankston began the season with two wins and a draw from it's first four games including the scalp of last season's champions, but have encountered all sorts of problems since and have lost four out of the last five games. In addition to their poor on field performances, three players which were recruited from Perth recently walked out on the club. Frankston's home form has also been disappointing for Pines fans with only one point from five games at Monterey. Frankston's three victories this season have all been away from home and have all been 1-0 scorelines.
To date the Georgies have lost all four away fixtures this season. All these games have been under lights so Sunshine fans can take some comfort in knowing this game has a 3.00PM kick off.
Frankston currently sit ninth on the league table with ten points with Georgie on eight points in twelfth position.
Last season at Monterey the Pines were 2-0 victors, and at Chaplin goals by Dusko Delic and Tony Neceski weren't enough with Frankston going home 3-2 winners.

In other games: Fawkner-Whittlesea are at home to Preston and promoted teams Richmond and Kingston battle it out in the Friday night fixtures. The only Sunday game is between Green Gully and the Melbourne Knights. There are three Monday night fixtures with the Oakleigh vs South Melbourne derby, Bulleen vs Altona Magic and Heidelberg vs Essendon.
