SUNSHINE GEORGE CROSS 4

ESSENDON ROYALS 1 ( CATALANO 65' )

Line up: JOHN, AZZOPARDI, OPAZO, NAPOLI, ZILIC, TALEVSKI, CINI, MAGNACCA, DELIC, GILMOUR (KALMAR 77'), ESPOSITO (MARKOVSKI 59') SUBS NOT USED: TSOUMERKAS, RUSSELL, FIORENZA

In what was to be Stanko Zilic's last match for the Georgies before his transfer to South Australian Premier League Club, Campbelltown City, his team mates gave him the perfect send off to Adelaide.

Anthony Magnacca opened the scoring as early as the 4th minute finishing some great build up play to find himself unmarked in the penalty area. The remainder of the half saw a desperate Essendon attempt to claw its way back into the game, however a combination of desperate goalkeeping by Martin John backed up by a disciplined defence and poor finishing on the part of the Royals saw the 1-0 scoreline carried into half time.

The second half began with an avalanche of Georgie goals as only a minute into the half, Michael Esposito, a product of the Under 21s over the last few seasons, making his first appearance in the Cross starting eleven headered the ball past the last defender to a goal bound Alfonso Opazo who neatly finished past the Royals keeper.

Merely 4 minutes later, Esposito was the instant delight of the Cross fans on the terraces finding himself unmarked in the area, and with all the composure of an experienced Premier League talisman , "Espo" took an extra touch before slamming the ball off the wood work and into the net from 6 yards or so.

Essendon did briefly get back into the match thanks to a 65th minute penalty, but a late finish from Dusko Delic, in his 4th season at the Cross, finished cooly in the 87th minute from out wide on the left.

The win was a vital 3 points, as the club endeavours to lift itself out of the bottom four considering there is still a game in hand.In what was to be Stanko Zilic's last match for the Georgies before his transfer to South Australian Premier League Club, Campbelltown City, his team mates gave him the perfect send off to Adelaide.
