The Sunshine Georgies undefeated "away" record has been shattered in a demoralising defeat at the hands of the Australia's best chosen youngsters in the AIS.

A.I.S  2
               (CERNAK 13', MULLEN 84')

SUNSHINE GEORGE CROSS 0

Two goals, on the break against lack lustre defending, one early and one late were enough for the AIS to take all three points from Chaplin Reserve back to the nations capital. Lack of finishing on the Georgies part, including a missed Magnacca penalty in the 59th minute, as well as an elusive AIS midfield proved costly for the Cross.

It was as early as the 13th minute when Isaka Cernak of the AIS was on hand, unmarked at the far post, to give the AIS the lead after a counter attack down the right resulted in an easy cross across the face of goal. The AIS could have made it two nil minutes later as lacklustre defending allowed acres of room on the edge of the 18 yard box where an AIS midfielder ghosted in to hit his shot against the crossbar.
The Cross struggled to contain the AIS midfield, which seemed to have spare men everywhere , and the pairing of Salley and Kalmar for the Cross seemed to be outnumbered on and off the ball. The Cross desperately tried to get back in the game, as a great through ball by Salley to Magnacca put him through on goal, but Magnacca's strike after passing all including the keeper only found the side netting.

A Husanovic cross in the 39th minute was met strongly at the far post by Kam Simsek, but his header was turned away well for a corner by the AIS keeper.

The turning point of the match which could have seen George Cross reclaim control of the game, came in the 58th minute as Anthony Magnacca burst into the AIS penalty area and was brought down, prompting the referee to point to the spot, Magnacca's resulting spot kick was poorly taken, with the keeper stranded the rolling kick could only find the base of the post.

Mentally, the young AIS team took control of the game, and despite the introduction of Trpcevski and Greechan off the bench, the latter creating the Georgies last real chance of the day with his shot cleared off the AIS line in the 70th minute, a second loss of the season seemed inevitable for the Cross.
Injuries to Tsoumerkas and the forced exit of Salley with a kick to the neck sealed the Cross' fate, as in the 84th minute, Matthew Mullen scored the games second goal for the Canberra outfit.

Clearly this was Sunshine's worst performance of the season, struggling to contain a fit hard running AIS team, it was a performance that was unnacceptable to the players, coaching staff, board and fans alike.
