Hopes are still high that the Georgies can avoid the drop and stay in the VPL after this stirring comeback against the Bulleen Zebras at the hoodoo ground of the Veneto Club.

The Georgies recorded a great come from behind victory over the Bulleen Zebras to lift themselves off bottom spot on the V.P.L. ladder. After Frankston Pines' win over Melbourne Knights earlier in the round, Sunshine had dropped to last place making the game against Bulleen the most important fixture of the year.
Knowing what was at stake the Georgies responded magnificently to take control of the game. Sunshine had complete control in the opening 45 minutes and went close to scoring from Fidell Richards whose rasping drive sailed narrowly over the bar. Minutes later Vasco Trpcevski went even closer when his well taken free kick from outside the penalty area struck the cross bar. The best opportunity though, fell to Dusko Delic when he was played through by a magnificent ball by Trpcevski. Delic had time to control the ball, but chose to volley the ball first time. Unfortunately his tame shot went straight at Bulleen keeper Tomas Kovar. The Georgies were well on top and cut through the home team's defence with great inter play between Waterson, Richards and Delic. The latter once again placed his final effort just over the bar.
The Georgies were dominating, but once again fell behind to a soft goal from Bulleen's one and only worth while attempt on goal. A long floated free kick went uncontested to the edge of the penalty area, with the ball falling at the feet of former Melbourne Victory player Ricky Diaco who unleashed a powerful low drive to give Georgies keeper Martin John no chance and the Zebras the lead. Just before the break Mark Draycott was presented with a glorious opportunity to score when a wonderfully whipped in ball by Waterson found him unmarked at the far post but he somehow fluffed his header from only 8 yards out.
The home team grew in confidence after the break with Sunshine's game plan falling away. Bulleen always looked the more likely to score, but somehow the Georgies fighting spirit never gave up. Two subsitutions kick started the Georgies fight back. In came Eddie Soares and Arthur Tsirtsakis for Mark Draycott and Dusko Delic. Coach Joe Montemurro's changes made an immediate impact, as within nine minutes of Tsirtsakis coming on the Cross were level. A magical reverse ball from Fidell Richards to Trent Waterson put Bulleen on the back foot. Waterson switched play back to the left flank with the final pass finding Tsirtsakis running in on goal on the edge of the penalty area. Tsirtsakis drove his low his shot through a ruck of players and past the outstretched arms of Kovar for the equaliser. With the Georgie die hard supporters finding their voice one could sense a winner and a change of fortune. It arrived just 2 minutes later when a wickedly struck low cross from the hard working and tough tackling Brett Gilmour found Eddie Soares on hand to score from close range, after the ball had taken a deflection off a Bulleen defender. It was a great comeback completely against the run of play. Bulleen put the pressure on in the closing stages but the Georgies were able to hang on to take 3 very important points in their fight for premier league survival.
After weeks of disappointment and missed chances the players were cheered off to the famous "GEORGIES" chant by the travelling band of supporters in what is hopefully a shot in the arm for everyone around the club.
