Thursday, 20 July 2006
Sunshine George Cross face league powerhouse Oakleigh Cannons in Round 21 of the Vodafone Cup.

The Georgies again could not hold on to a lead and ended up all square in a one all draw against South Melbourne at Bob Jane in Round 20. Oakleigh won their third game on the trot in a 2-1 win against the Melbourne Knights. The Cannons also played a midweek catch-up game against Green Gully but were held to a one all draw.
The Cannons now hold a commanding nine point lead at the top of the Vodafone Cup table.

A memorable Vasco Trpcevski goal was not enough against an Oakleigh side sweeping all before them in the 1-2 loss at Jack Edwards Reserve in Round 8.
The last three results have all gone the way of the Cannons with 5-1, 2-1, 2-1 victories.

This week's game presents George Cross with another huge task with Oakleigh being the third title contender faced in as many weeks (following the fixtures against Altona Magic and South Melbourne). However, this game will be Oakleigh's third game in a week after their mid week catch-up game. Can the Georgies take advantage of some tired legs at Chaplin Reserve?

Oakleigh have only lost 2 games this season with both losses being away from Jack Edwards Reserve. The Cannons are undefeated at home though and seem to have the minor premiership sewn up.

The Georgies desperately need to cause an upset this week after Richmond, Green Gully and Preston all won last weekend.

In other games: Friday night: Kingston v Heidelberg. Sunday: South Melbourne v Altona Magic, Melbourne Knights v Bulleen and Preston v Green Gully. Monday night: Fawkner-Whittlesea v Richmond and Essendon v Frankston Pines.
