Despite there being only one goal in Richmond's favour at the final whistle, Richmond were a far easier winner than the score suggests. The home team dominated from the start and played with a passion and toughness that the Sunshine George Cross players could not match.

The only aspect that kept Sunshine within reach in this match was Richmond's inability to finish off good scoring chances. The first half of this contest was a battle for supremacy in midfield where the home team held a slight edge, but the Sunshine defence led by Colin Azzopardi was able the thwart Richmond attacking force. Young goalkeeper Michael Fiorenza in Sunshine's goal was the busier of the two custodians, but he dealt with whatever got past Sunshine's backline. The Georgies attacking force was very restricted with Mark Draycott and Fidel Richards unable to get into the game. The second half saw Richmond step up a gear to force the visitors on the back foot and their strong running was proving a headache for he Sunshine defence. The Georgies were given very little time to dwell on the ball and when youngster Trent Waterson was caught in possession deep in his own half, Richmond took full advantage of the situation. Promising Richmond prospect Daniel Visivic latched onto the ball and blasted a low hard drive past a hapless Michael Fiorenza to score in the 72 minute. The Georgies tried to respond in the final 15 minutes, but found Richmond in no mood to relinquish the lead they fought hard to achieve. On this performance Richmond should continue to pull away from the relegation zone and under the guidance of experience coach Phil Stubbins a place in the finals cannot be ruled out. As for Sunshine this team is a mere shadow of the one prior to the two weeks break, and it is very important that form is quickly recaptured with so many teams separated by so little in the basement of the V.P.L. ladder. This coming Sunday the Georgies face another tough assignment when they take on Altona Magic at Chaplin Reserve with the game kicking off at 3.00 pm. In the under 21 Richmond completed a miserable night for Georgie fans by running out 4-2 winners.
