ROUND 18 PREVIEW PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 28 June 2006
It's Friday night football as Sunshine George Cross take on Richmond in Round 18 of the Vodafone Cup at the Kevin Bartlett Reserve, Smith Drive, Richmond. Melway Ref: 45A12. Kick off is at 8.30pm.

In Round 17, Fidell Richards' sixth goal of the season wasn't enough as Georgie went down 1-2 against the Melbourne Knights in an uninspiring performance. Richmond on the other hand had a big 4-3 victory against Green Gully to climb out of the relegation zone.

In the Round 5 fixture at Chaplin Reserve, goals by Tony Neceski and Trent Waterson weren't enough as Richmond earned a 2-2 draw.
Richmond have struggled all season and could only manage two victories in the first half of the season, including a win in Round 1. They have however only lost one game out of the last six and have two draws and a win from their last three games.

After Heidelberg and coach Phil Stubbins parted company, Richmond were quick to snap up the services of the experienced Stubbins. Stubbins seems to be slowly steering his side to safety with some positive results.

The Georgies must lift and a vast improvement is required if they are to beat a determined Richmond. A loss for either side will be cause for concern with only five points separating ninth position on the league table and bottom place.

In other games: Friday night: Oakleigh v Preston. Saturday: Frankston Pines v Fawkner-Whittlesea and Altona Magic v Melbourne Knights. Sunday: South Melbourne v Essendon and Green Gully v Heidelberg. Monday night: Bulleen v Kingston.
