2019 SIGNINGS

E-mail Print PDF
When a team is relegated there are two things a club can do, either feel sorry for themself and give up, or pick themself up, work hard to get back on track.

LIAM HARDING

Fortunately for George Cross followers club officials chose the latter and began directing the club in the right direction with the appointment of two good coaches in Corey Smith and David Clarkson. This duo have already recruited eight new players for the 2019 season and more signings are assured before a ball is kicked in anger.

We shall endevour to introduce these signings on a regular basis so our fans can get to know our players better.

Our first signing for the year is Liam Harding who comes to George Cross from NPL2 club Ballarat City. Twenty-seven year-old Harding has played close to 200 matches for Ballarat City and was named City's Best & Fairest player for 2019. To win this award was a great acheivement in itself considering the devastating injury Harding suffered in 2016. The injury was so severe it cast serious doubt about his playing future. Even Liam himself didn't think he would ever play football again, but his dedication and hard work ethic enabled him to overcome this major injury and return to playing top flight football.

It seems Harding is the type of player who will endear himself to every George Cross fan, because there is nothing these fans love more than a totally committed player. Liam told club officials "I am delighted to have signed for George Cross and I’m excited to be apart of this new exciting squad the gaffer is putting together. I am confident we can achieve lots of success.” He is a happy and carefree fellow who likes a joke and banter. At the same time he is very demanding of himself on the football field and is often critical of his performance when he thinks he performed poorly.

Corey Smith "Liam has the qualities to be one of the best players in the competition, absolutely delighted to have secured his services and look forward to working with him".

We welcome Liam Harding to our club and wish him a happy and successful stay.
