The Georgies advanced to the 4th round of the FFA Cup following a 3-2 win over Yarraville Glory. The winning goal came in the first period of extra-time after the match ended 2-2. Twice the Cross took the lead only to be pegged back on each occasion by the Glory.

The Georgies took an early lead through Hugh Undy who managed to slip the ball home under the advancing keeper. Within one minute Yarraville were level following several failed attempts by the Georgie defenders that allowed Lewis Shannon to slam the ball home from close range.

George Cross regained the lead halfway through the second half with a great finish from winger Dominic Swinton. Yarraville once again reacted positively to going behind with a long range goal scored once again by Shannon.

Both teams tired badly during extra-time in the warm conditions and it was the Cross that once again took the lead when the ball somehow found its way to the feet of James Kamel who calmly slotted home for what was to be the winning goal. The Georgies had the ball in the back of the net again not long after, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

In the closing stages of the match Yarraville intensified their attacks and the George Cross defence had to withstand some hairy moments including a shout for a penalty. It wasn’t to be and it will be the George Cross name that will go into the barrel for the round 4 draw.
