CAROLINE SPRINGS GEORGE CROSS 2 ST. KILDA 2
Wednesday night’s practice match against St. Kilda Celts was called off 20 minutes into the second half when both coaches decided it was too dangerous to continue. The deteriorating light quickly set-in at Chaplin Reserve and the lights at this ground are not suitable for night football. As for what was played, it was an even game first half with the Georgies going ahead after 11 minutes through Deang Aguek. St. Kilda managed to make it 1-1 at the break with a goal scored from a free-kick. Coach Corey Smith made a few changes in the second half that saw his team become the more dominant side. The Cross was stung into action when the Saints took an early second half lead by quickly drawing level with a goal form Yuji Kin. This was the young lad’s fourth goal after he notched up a hat-trick for the reserves on Saturday. Corey Smith comments after the match: “Overall it was a good opportunity to get run in the legs, but probably a bit of a waste in terms of the football that was played as the light got dangerous. We were certainly the stronger side overall, but the game threw us a few new questions that need to be addressed prior to round one.
