TOUGH TEST FOR GEORGIES

CAROLINE SPRINGS GEORGE CROSS 2 NUNAWADING CITY 2
georgies vs nunawadingThe match Nunawading City at Chaplin Reserve on Saturday was the toughest test for the Georgies since playing Heidelberg United three weeks ago. The star-studded visiting side featuring Ben Khalfalla, Roddy Vargas and goalkeeper Michael Theo began the better of the two sides, but found themselves trailing George Cross with a goal scored by defender George Tsiakalakis.

City responded immediately to this setback with an incredible shot that gave George Cross keeper Ryan Gauci no chance of saving. If that goal wasn’t special enough Nunawading took the lead with another superb overhead goal that rocketed into the net.

George Cross lifted their game after the break and had a chance to draw level when a penalty was awarded for shirt pulling. Unfortunately Liam Harding’s meek effort was easily saved by the experienced Michael Theo.

Personal changes didn’t stop the Georgie momentum as they went all out for the equalizer. This deservedly arrived late in the game with a well worked goal finished off by substitute Deang Aguek.

Coach Corey Smith was satisfied with the performance and pleased with the work-rate of his players. He said it’s not about results at this stage, but about continuing to build momentum towards the first game of the season. georgies vs nunawading
