Jake Francis after his impressive debut

Jake Francis has been playing football as long as he can remember. Born and raised in Scotland this was something that came naturally to most young boys and it was no different for Jake who took to the game like a duck to water.

When he moved to Australia he settled in Ballarat where he played his junior football with the local club. Jake showed his potential and his impressive displays were rewarded by being selected to represent Victoria Country several times.

It was a big day for Jake when he made his senior team debut in 2016 as a 17 year old for Ballarat against Box Hill United. Though his team lost the game 3-2 Jake was extremely happy having scored a goal in his very first match. It was also gratifying for Jake who was coming back from a season-ending leg break.

He held his own in senior company and spent the last three seasons playing NPL2 football with Ballarat. This past season was one of his best with Jake finishing Runner-Up in the club’s Best and Fairest count.

He enjoyed his time with the country club, but felt it was time for a new playing challenge. When the opportunity came to play at a big club like this he had no second thoughts and with Corey Smith as a coach, Jake said: “It was the perfect fit for me, I’m really excited and I look forward to lots of success here”.

Corey Smith said after securing the youngster: “Jake is an outstanding young talent and my hope is that George Cross will give him the platform to express his talents, I’ve had Jake in youth age groups and he now has three seasons at NPL level and will delight our fans I’m sure”.

Welcome Jake!
